Do you REALLY love what you do?

Sharing is caring!

Steve Jobs

When writing this post I wanted to put a picture of William Wallace (Braveheart) up and thought although it ticked the passion box it was more about Freedom than Passion.

You see you have to really, really, really love what you do.

If you wake up in the morning and go “Oh shit, work….” then my advice is to walk in to your office and quit. Seriously!

This is not about loving what you do because you have to do it, this is about loving what you do because others have to believe it!

Obviously it is important to love our work. Time for a clichè “We spend more than half our lives working so we need to love what we do……” Yawn!

Yes, we do but working involves engaging with others and if you put out a message that you hate what you doing do you really think people are going to buy from you?

Business is done because of relationships. We work with and deal with people we want to. No one wants to deal with or hang out with a negative nelly. If you don’t love what you doing it will come across when you present it.

Let’s take commerce off the table for a second. Have you ever met or spoken to a person that is involved with an organisation like Greenpeace? If you have you will know exactly what I have been trying to get across in this post. You see they are some of the wealthiest people in the world. They love what they are doing, they believe in what they are doing and they never want to stop doing what they are doing!

When we see these people we believe in what they are doing or saying. It’s all because of one thing; LOVE.

They are literally prepared to die for what the believe in and do. I said they are the wealthiest people in the world. If you disagree you need to re-read some of my earlier posts.

Now let’s move back into the world of business. If you walk into a store and the person you meet truly loves being there and shows absolute passion for what they are selling, are you not more likely to buy from them?

Now look at yourself. You are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. It’s hard out there and your body language and vocabulary are showing everyone this. How many people are buying from you?

Positive outlook and passion for what you are selling or doing will contribute more than you realise in getting business done.

You also can’t force passion, it’s easy to go out there and pretend to love what you do, but people will see through the facade and you still won’t achieve what it is you are trying to.

You do spend 50% of your life working, imagine if you could spend 100% of that time loving what you do?
