Let’s just quickly point out that work is work, not fun.
This is where you go to earn a living, the earnings is what you spend on having fun.
But, not to be a killjoy – there is no reason why you can’t have some fun while working.
The secret though is to make it productive fun – not a distraction!
So, how do you do it?
Create a competition.
Nothing is better than winning – so get the team to challenge each other to do better, which is rewarded and in such is a motivation to do better.
It could be a gift card, electronic gift, or an experience or getaway.
You could include required things or services to be part of the competition.
An example, write and share the most posts on social, the ones that get the most engagement, wins.
They win, but so do you and the company getting exposure to so many more people while your team is doing what they are supposed to be doing anyway.
Be careful not to make it all about the fun or the competition though. The key is balance – you don’t want work to only be a competition. The best way to do this is to theme it.
The Spring Challenge for the month of September (Fall for my Northern Hemisphere readers) is to do “x”.
Remember, if you or the team can enjoy what you do, it won’t seem like work, but equally it can’t just be fun, things stil need to get done.
